“Words that I can string together would be just too cheesy to communicate the uplifting and inspiring feeling that last night engendered in, I think just about everyone there. Not just us but the young people who participated too. Congratulations to every one who helped make it happen. “

The Birdies Film Festival, founded in 2011 by students and graduates of Kingston University aims to give young people the opportunity to showcase their films, whilst providing a unique opportunity to network with Film Professionals. Operating under the umbrella of The International Youth Arts Festival, and with the support and guidance from The Birds Eye View Film Festival and Hollywood producer Kevin Loader, The Birdies team put together a hugely successful first Festival in July 2011. The Festival showcased some outstanding films made by young people from all over UK – and internationally too! The event was received incredibly well by all those who attended and participated.
The summer of 2012 will be bringing the second Birdies Film Festival to you all. We will be looking for young aspiring film makers worldwide to enter their short films as part of the contest. The best entries will be screened at our gala event at the Odeon, in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey.
This will be a great opportunity for you as film makers to get your films showcased at one of UK’s largest cinema chains, whilst having the opportunity to mingle with like-minded film makers and industry professionals. This could give you an advantage when you’re trying to crack your way into the competitive world of the film industry.
This year our film themes have been broken down into two sections. We will be looking for films that fall in the following categories:
Every film must be under 15 minutes long, be copied onto DVD minus R, and the content of the film must be suitable for audiences of 12 and over i.e. no bad language, nudity, offensive content etc. Also, as this is a festival that celebrates youth art, all entrants must be no older than 26 years old. The deadline for film entries is 22/06/2012.
All applicants will be informed if they have been successful by the end of June, two weeks in advance of the Screening Gala on the 12th of July.
The screening will take place at the prestigious location of the Kingston Odeon. At the Gala screening we will be showcasing the winning films as well as some of our favourite entries, followed by the awards ceremony.
See you next week thurs
