What is I.Y.A.F. ?

Creative Youth Charity organises and delivers Kingston’s International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF), one of the largest and most diverse youth events in the world.

Launched in 2009, IYAF has become a must see Arts festival and often considered a precursor to Edinburgh Fringe.  Showcasing the best young talent nationally and internationally, IYAF provides a platform where emerging young artists aged 5-26 years old can reveal and share their skills and artistic expression with local and visiting audiences. Over the last 9 years the growth has been phenomenal; more than 25,000 young people have participated in delivering the festival as artists, project managers, interns, volunteers in over 18 venues.

IYAF 2016 was an excellent festival with 200 events hosted by 70 companies, across 20 venues for ten days. Over 50 schools, both local and from further afield, were involved in various projects. Professional mentors such as the Ballet Boyz, Riot Box Productions, National Youth Music Theatre and Banquet Records helped facilitate showcases and performances all of which involved passionate and creative young people from across the world. The festival featured theatre, dance, music, visual art, spoken word and comedy acts with the aim of giving the young people a foot-up in the creative industries and hosting them here, in Kingston. As well as the performance support the festival offers, we also provide real world experience for stage craft and technical students, budding journalists, marketeers and trainee Project Managers.

This festival would be nothing without the reams of people who have volunteered their time and energy to make it a success and every single one should be immensely proud of their achievements.”

– Andy Currums, Festival Director
