 What do we need?
 
We are looking for people who can offer any of the following skills/experience :

Currently we have a need for an individual or group of individuals, to review, design, implement and maintain the IYAF website. The website is key to the success of IYAF and we need experienced innovative individuals with a good knowledge of website design to help ensure ours is one of the most current and exciting available.

IYAF Ambassadors :-                                                                                        

Throughout the year we require individuals  with good interpersonal skills who can promote the vision and fun of both the Festival and being a Volunteer. The individuals will help at fundraisers, visit potential volunteer sites and community events in order to help raise funds and create awareness of the charity and festival.

The Rose is holding auditions for a brand new Community Play to be staged in the theatre’s main house in early September.

With a working title of ‘Our Town: A Kingston Story’, this play will be a celebration of Kingston’s past, present and future which promises to provide a thrilling dramatic spectacle for the whole community. Budding thespians from the age of 18 to 118 are encouraged to apply. No previous drama experience is necessary. We’re looking for people who are enthusiastic, committed and willing to challenge themselves.

Auditions will involve group games and improvisation and will take place in the week of the 5th of July. There is a special IYAF Gala Night performance of “None But Friends”, on the evening of the 8th July at The Rose Theatre, in the presence of HRH The Earl of Wessex and other stars and patrons. Standard tickets are now on sale, however, there are a limited number of tickets for the best seats in the house and include a champagne reception with canapés, interval dinks and a chance to rub shoulders with Royalty and Celebrities available for just £40.00. We would like you to take a picture of something in your home town that shows why you like where you live and write a few sentences to explain why you chose this picture.

Some of the photographs will be exhibited at the Rose Theatre in Kingston during the International Youth Arts Festival from 2 to 11 July 2010.

A play for the youth of today.
Shaped by the stories and experiences of over 2,000 young people. The origins of the piece grew from a Facebook group set up to call for an end to age discrimination. The piece explores, debates and reflects on the role of the youth of today.  The piece will be performed at the International Youth Arts Festival on Friday 2nd July at the Arthur Cotterell Theatre.

Rick Astley holds the record for being the only male solo artist to have his first 8 singles reach the the top ten in the UK and has sold approximately 40 million records worldwide…. so what next?  An incredible sold out gig at the Rose Theatre which saw Rick performing with his ‘weekend band’ – The Luddites.

The night was phenomenal, with over 800 people singing along to support band the Reptiles & joyously dancing in the aisles at the magnificent sound (and sight) of The Luddites!

 The night raised some much needed funds for IYAF and importantly had the audience (who spanned about six generations) cheering, smiling and laughing all night long.

A wonderful weekend took place on the 27th & 28th February when a whole community came together to redisover the Seething Festival and the Legend of Lefi Ganderson.

The tale of Lefi Ganderson and his battle with the Giant has passed through the ages. Its core narrative appears in many folk tales such as ‘Jack and Beanstalk’ and the classic Norwegian legend ‘De Baby og de Gigantiske’.

But for many scholars the classic tale is still ‘The Goat Boy of Seething’. Unfortunately the telling of the legend stopped in 1927. This was also the last year of the associated ‘Seething Festival’… until now!  The IYAF joined hundreds of members of the community to take part in processions, archeological digs to find the entrance to Lefi ‘s cave, mad hunts for lay lines, the beautiful community play and of course, the traditional burning of the giants head on a bonfire and the eating of jacket potatoes!  Copies of the beautifully written and illustrated children’s book can still be bought for £10 by e-mailing lefithegoatboy@yahoo.co.uk.  All proceeds go the International Youth Arts Festival.
