Young Kingston & Creative Youths partnership delivers results.

Creative Youth/IYAF’s partnership with Young Kingston continues. Over the last 2 years Young Kingston has supported a number of interesting projects put forward by young people associated with by both Creative Youth and IYAF. Most recently a Grant from Young Kingston helped Young People perform in the London New Years Day Parade 2012.

Another of Creative Youth’s partners, BT,  provided the vehicle for the float which represented the Royal Borough of Kingston and featured Creative Youth and the National Youth Music Theatre. Kingston’s Mayor Councillor Patrick Codd also participated. This was the borough’s first ever entry into the Parade and resulted in a prize for the float.

Young Kingston is an exciting charitable fund  set up by Kingston’s Mayor for 2006-7, Cllr Mary Reid.  Its aim is to help young people living or going to school in the Kingston borough, to make the most of life’s opportunities and benefit their local community.

Whether it’s providing funding for a local environmental clean-up or a performance about an issue that matters to them or providing talented musicians with funds so they can buy a musical instrument or travel to sporting events for promising sportspeople so they can compete, – Young Kingston aims to help young people do it for themselves.

Young Kingston and Creative Youth/IYAF have entered into a partnership which means some of the funds available will be specifically for young people who want to run projects, deliver work or contribute something to IYAF – this can be throughout the year or during the July Festival (for example it could be towards the costs of running a monthly band night leading up to IYAF or it could be for a production performed during the July festival)

Who Can Apply?

Anyone living or going to school in Kingston, between 5 – 19 years (and above for those with disabilities) can apply.

We will make it as simple and easy as possible – so applications can be made on a simple form. Young Kingston Advisers will be on hand to help with applications.

What kind of projects have received grants?

Grants have been awarded, among others, to enable young people to become sports instructors, to train and take part in the Special Olympics, to construct a community garden, to share with local people what they have learnt on a trip to Africa, and to learn dance skills so they can perform at local events.

How are grants awarded?

A unique feature of our charitable fund is that our grants will be awarded by a panel of young people (who themselves have gained valuable skills through their training for the task).

How much can you apply for?

Young people can apply for grants of up to £500 for their ideas.

When can I apply?

More information is available on the Young Kingston website and you can download the application form here

Volunteers required now!

The International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) has now completed its second year and will be back in Kingston in 2011. We are already thinking about 2011 and now  looking for volunteers to help both promote the charity in the run up to  the Festival in 2011.

 What do we need?

We are looking for people who can offer any of the following skills/experience :

 Web Designers:-

Currently we have a need for an individual or group of individuals, to review, design, implement and maintain the IYAF website. The website is key to the success of IYAF and we need experienced innovative individuals with a good knowledge of website design to help ensure ours is one of the most current and exciting available.

IYAF Ambassadors :-

Throughout the year we require individuals  with good interpersonal skills who can promote the vision and fun of both the Festival and being a Volunteer.
